Suitcase of Freedom
Suitcase of Freedom
The installation was inspired by the fate of Samuel Willenberg. The random
collection of elements, after a more thorough analysis, makes sense, where
ordinary objects, in a metaphorical way, become symbols of the road to freedom.
A shirt, a box of matches, fifteen cigarettes, twenty zlotys, etc. are a
material trace of my character's experiences; the last surviving participant of
the revolt in the extermination camp in Treblinka on August 2, 1943.
The installation is part of the work, which also includes video - a report
from the meeting with Samuel "Igo" Willenberg.
The work was created as part of the
"Drama of Freedom" project.
